Heritage Square
Heritage Square is a unique and beautiful historic district that encompasses a ten block area near downtown McCook. It includes the only home in Nebraska designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, and the homes and residences of many notable political figures in Nebraska and American history. The Heritage Square Foundation was formed to celebrate and preserve this special area of McCook.
A walking tour of Heritage Square begins at the High Plains Museum, 413 Norris Avenue. After touring the museum, the visitor can venture north to see the rest of Heritage Square. McCook is home to three Nebraska Governors: Ralph G. Brooks, Frank Morrison and Ben Nelson, as well as Senators Nelson and George W. Norris. The homes of all of these political figures are located in the Heritage Square historic district.
The area also includes Norris Park with its famous band shell, the Red Willow County Courthouse, the beautiful old Elks Lodge, and other historic attractions.
