McCook Community Foundation Awards Funds to American Legion Baseball Program

McCook Community Foundation board members presented a $1,000 check to the American Legion Baseball Program towards the purchase of a new pitching machine.  McCook Community Foundation chairman, Mark Graff, commented, “Our board is pleased to support the American Legion’s baseball program through this vital piece of equipment.  We are enthused to see the cooperation between the Legion baseball program and McCook Community College’s baseball team as they both utilize the pitching machine.”

American Legion baseball team and McCook Community College baseball team members have been practicing at an indoor facility with the challenging Nebraska weather.  The pitching machine will be used both indoors and outdoors, while also creating a safer practice environment.

Legion Baseball board member, Darrel Potthoff shared his excitement for the MCF donation, “the pitching machine ensures that our baseball programs continue to have the same opportunities for success.  McCook’s Legion baseball program has produced numerous players that have received college basebell scholarships.  We also look forward to a stronger partnership with McCook Community College’s baseball program.”

Jeremy Jorgensen, McCook Community College head baseball coach expressed his thanks for the pitching machine, noting, “we have a mission to build and develop the McCook Community College baseball program.  Community support to promote baseball in southwest Nebraska is vital to our future success and this gift is greatly appreciated.  Equipment is part of the package necessary to prepare our players for a higher level of competition.”

The next round of funding opportunities for McCook Community Foundation will start May 15th for application availability.  The due date for completed applications will be July 15th.  Organizations will receive their checks at the October 15th Founders Event.

McCook Community Foundation is affiliated with the Nebraska Community Foundation and has received their “Endowment-Building Award”.  Several causes have utilized the foundation and its 501(c)3 status to raise funds, such as, the diving board project at the YMCA, PTO playground equipment for the schools, Heritage Square, and the YMCA and Hillcrest Foundation endowment funds.
