New Board Members for McCook Community Foundation

Newly elected board members serving three-year terms are Kay Flaska and Kathy Latta.  Kay is a retired teacher and highly involved community volunteer.  She has served two terms on the YMCA board of directors and is the new president of the McCook Arts Council.  Kay is also involved with Buffalo Commons, the Civil Service Commission and various church functions.

Kathy Latta is the principal at East Ward and NorthWard Elementary Schools.  Kathy and her husband, Mark have lived in McCook since 1985 and have two children: Jack and Katie.   Kathy is also active in McCook Community Theater productions, church choir, and serves on the Camp Comeca board of directors.  “We are very pleased to have such talented individuals join the foundation board,” stated Gene Morris.  “Kay and Kathy bring enthusiasm and knowledge with them as they start their terms,” according to Stan Goodwin.

Board members ending their terms of service include: Floyd Hershberger, owner of Hershberger Music and Kay Lavene, past director of the McCook Economic Development Corporation.  “We are very appreciative of the time spent to benefit McCook Community Foundation by these board members,” stated Mark Graff.  Floyd Hershberger was the original founder of the McCook Community Foundation with the assistance of Kay Lavene.

Elected Chairman of the foundation for 2005 is P. Mark Graff, President and CEO of McCook National Bank.  He has served on the board since the inception of the foundation.  Mark is married to Linda Graff and they have three children: Jayme, Jade and Jared.

Vice-Chairman is Stan Goodwin, attorney at law.  Stan and his wife, Carmen, have lived in McCook since 1973.  Stan has been a member of the board since the beginning of the foundation.  Stan and Carmen are the parents of two grown children and have two grandchildren.

Serving as Secretary will be Don Harpst, retired newspaper publisher and health care administrator.  He and his wife, Alice, have five married children and six grandchildren. 

Reelected as Treasurer is Doug Skiles, CPA and partner in the accounting firm McPherron, Skiles, Joel and Loop.  A resident of McCook since childhood, Doug is involved in many community activities along with his wife, Shary, and children: Megan and Ben.

Gene Morris will retain the title of Past-Chairman of the foundation.  Gene is the publisher of the McCook Daily Gazette and has served on the board since its inception.  Gene and his wife, Barbara, are parents of four children and have five grandchildren.
