McCook Community Foundation Announces First Haag Scholarship Winner

McCook Community Foundation proudly announces the first recipient of the Bernard and Nelda Haag Scholarship.  Through the generosity of Nelda and the late Bernard Haag, a $1,000 scholarship will be presented to Kyle Quaduor, a senior at Southwest High School.  Mr. Quaduor is planning to attend McCook Community College in the fall to study welding and machine shop technology.  He plans to operate his own machine shop in the future.

Kyle has been involved in numerous activities, including: Class C All-State Band, Football team captain, FFA officer, Boys State Representative, National Honor Society, Homecoming King, Outstanding 4-Her for Red Willow County, and Speech/Drama letterman.  He has volunteered to play Taps at Veterans funerals and Memorial Day ceremonies.  Once a month he helps with Saturday Morning 4-H, besides working on the family farm and performing custom welding and repair work for area farmers.  His parents are Robert and Kathleen Quaduor and they live on the family farm northeast of Danbury.

Nelda Haag explained her desire to create the scholarship, “We are grateful to our community and want to ensure that our community continues to prosper.  Bernard had one year of college and had to come home and work.  He always valued the higher education and felt that it had life-long impact.  It is important to take care of our strong rural roots and encourage higher education to make our community stronger.  By providing this scholarship, I hope that students will use the opportunity to make a difference for themselves and our rural families.”  The scholarship is based on applicants extracurricular activities, leadership, work/volunteer experience, personal essay and financial need.

McCook Community Foundation through its affiliation with the Nebraska Community Foundation, receives tax deductible charitable donations to fund numerous community betterment projects in McCook and the surrounding area.   If you would like to contribute to the McCook Community Foundation for scholarship support or other community projects, contact Denise Ringenberg at 308-345-518 or foundation@mccookne.org
