McCook Community Foundation announces Haag scholarship winner

The McCook Community Foundation Fund proudly announces the 2010 recipient of the Bernard and Nelda Haag Scholarship.  Through the generosity of Nelda and the late Bernard Haag, a $1,000 scholarship will be presented to Kyle Chesterman, a senior at Southern Valley High School.  Kyle is planning to attend Nebraska Wesleyan University in the fall to study communications.  He plans to use his communications degree to fulfill his passion for writing while helping those in need.  He has researched the possibility of becoming a grant-writer so he can help non-profit, charitable organizations obtain funding.

Kyle received Academic-All State honors in journalism and drama, as well as Doane Honor Choir and UNK Honor Choir awards.  He has been active in Teens for Christ and Student Council and has been involved in multiple volunteer activities throughout high school such as Habitat for Humanity, Community Garbage Pick-Up and helping with Vacation Bible School.  Kyle’s passion for writing lead to the creation of the school newspaper in 2007 and he has been editor-in-chief since then.

The Haag scholarship is based on applicants’ extracurricular activities, leadership, work/volunteer experience, personal essay and financial need.  The McCook Community Foundation Fund, through its affiliation with the Nebraska Community Foundation, receives tax deductible charitable donations to fund numerous community betterment projects in southwest Nebraska.   If you would like to contribute to the McCook Community Foundation Fund for scholarship support or other community projects, contact us at 877.432.4675 or visit our website at mccookcf.org.
